Insufficient homeless shelters
Recent reports of homeless ones in Italy being beaten by police and humiliated highlights the extreme plight of this extremely vulnerable group of people. We in St RCHF do not accept inferior treatment to anyone who is homeless and on the streets as after all we are all born children of God above. In life today one can so easily loose an affluent lifestyle and end up with nothing except the clothes on our backs and out on the streets.
There were homeless people even before mass immigrations to Europe started years ago and it is wrong to place a label on these people as ‘down and outs’ as the saying goes. Feeling the cold each night, frightened of being abused by others including passers by, without the possibility to wash themselves properly or what clothes they have all leaves the homeless one depressed and all too soon suffering illnesses that lead to an early termination of the life. The sheer feeling of rejection and hopelessness along with lack of ability to eat a proper diet and lack of proper sleep leaves many turning to alcohol as a way to erase for a few hours the memory of the life that they are suffering with hourly and daily.
When the authorities fail to act and help also in the worst cases treat the homeless with disrespect and even violence then humanity goes out of the window.
There is insufficient shelters in Eastern Europe as a whole for homeless people of all ages and in Romania the same with far too few shelters available. Some local council ones as in Botosani town and others run voluntary by Orthodox Churches as is the one St RCHF supports in Suceava city in Bucovina, Romania. The council type of shelter is understaffed as the budget for these shelters is only a small one ad unable to cover real needs unlike the Church run centers where food is of a far better standard, showers and facilities are available as is replacement clothing, clean beds (bunk beds) and the possibility to gain social support and counseling for free.
St RCHF members each winter are out on the streets of towns and cities with hot drinks and food, plus entice the homeless to go with them to a shelter where can be in the warmth rather than in danger of the streets that are cold and depressing.

Children’s homes
St RCHF supports activities and events in children’s care homes as well as in homes for adult’s who have severe learning difficulties. St RCHF has freely given the Timmy Mouse learning products to children in care so they can learn even at their centers as not all of these children go to school.
This work includes presents at Christmas and treats at Easter as well as arranging poster painting competitions and other suitable educational actions to help raise the spirits of these children and adults alike. We have even had children from a children’s home at summer camp with their carers where they enjoy a holiday that they could only ever have dreamed of.
